The first week of games proved to be exciting and full of learning experiences that will hopefully make us better down the road. The opening night of the season saw the Lobos travel to Katy to take on Seven Lakes High School. The Spartans welcomed the Lobos with a give away of over 500 Spartan Crazy T-Shirts. The stands were packed and ready to rock. However, the Lobos had a different game plan. We jumped out to an early lead of 18-9 in the first quarter and the crowd was not much of a factor most of the game. The Spartans made a run and most of the game remained close. Everytime the Spartans made a run the Lobos answered. The tide turned late in the 4th quarter when two starters got into foul trouble and the Spartan crowd came alive. In what was a frantic finish, the Lobos saw the lead evaporate late in the 4th quarter, yet battles tough to the end. The final tally saw the Lobos come out on the short end 61-54.
Friday night, the Lobos travelled to Aldine to take on the Cougars of Nimitz HS. Once again the Lobos were ready for the challenge and jumped out to an commanding early lead in the first half. The Cougars made a run to cut the deficit, but the Lobos held strong. Although the crowd was not as big, the fans at the Nimitz game were just as loud as the Spartan fans Tuesday. The Lobos were able to make enough plays down he stretch and just enough freethrows down the strech to seal a good win 66-65. The challenge of going on the road to win in a tough enviornment is always good.
The Junior Varsity boy’s basketball team started out the season on the road at seven Lakes HS and gave a valiant effort, but came up short to a tough Spartan team. Offensive execution and defensive savvy allowed the Lobos to fight to the end. This past weekend the Lobos also competed in the Cy-Fair ISD Boy’s basketball tournament were they fell short to the Cy-Fair bobcats in the Consolation final 30 to 28. The boy’s opened up against a very athletic Spring HS team, but came up short at the end. Second chance opportunities and turn-overs hurt the Lobos at the end. They were able to bounce back against Cy-Ridge HS the following day and pulled out a victory with clutch free throws down the stretch. Saturday morning, they traveled to Cy-Lakes HS to compete against a scrappy Mayde Creek HS team were the Lobos showed some poise down the stretch to seal the victory. In the Consolation final, rebounding and poor execution down the stretch hurt the Lobos against a very athletic Bobcat team.
It was a busy start to the season for the A Team this week, playing a total of 4 games. Tuesday’s opener at Seven Lakes saw the Lobos fall short to Katy Seven Lakes. It was a tough battle that was a valuable learning experience for the Freshmen.
On Thursday the A Team began play in the Alief ISD Tournament, which is competitive, because of the athletic and talented teams. The A Team began play against the host of the tournament, Alief Hastings. The Lobos came out of the gate slow and trailed by as many as 15 in the second quarter. However, they did not let up. The Lobos played good pressure defense and smart offense giving them a chance to pull with in two with 4 seconds left. After a time out, a 3 point buzzer beater gave the Lobos their first win of the season. It opponents didn’t get any easier for the Friday game of the tourney where the Lobos faced one of the best basketball programs in the area, Alief Elsik. The A Team picked their full court pressure defense apart and was able to get another victory by 3. In the championship game of the tournament on Saturday, the Lobos got a rematch against Katy Seven Lakes. The Lobos fought hard but could not overcome Seven Lakes’ 11 3 pointers and missing 15 free throws. The Lobos finished 2nd in the tournament.
All in all it was a very exciting and successful first week as the A team stands at 2-2 overall. It should be a great season as the Freshman continue to learn and grow.
This week the Lobos will host another terrific program Tuesday night, Kingwood High School. The Mustangs are consistently one of the best programs in the area and will provide a stiff challenge for the Lobos. Wednesday afternoon, the Lobos will be one of 8 games taking place at Cy-Springs HS. 13-5A/15-5A Challenge will be teams from each district playing at one site. The Lobos will take on the new program of DeKaney HS. We hope to see everyone at the games before Holidays Feast is on the table.

The girl’s basketball team had their home opener last night against Klein Forest. The freshman team came up short but put up a hard fight. They were down at half time by 13 points and came out strong the second half. They held the Eagles to only 2 points in the third quarter. They tried their best but lost by 4 points.
The Junior Varsity team demolished the Eagles. Their defense was just too much for the Eagles, the final score was 47 to 14. The junior varsity team is still undefeated with a record of 6 – 0.
The Varsity team pulled out a close win, defeating the Eagles by only 4 points. Klein Forest was ahead by 2 points going into the 4th quarter. The lobos knew they had to stay calm and control the tempo, so they did. Free throws were the key in victory; the lobos shot 100 % from the line in the 4th quarter. Erika Davis was 4 of 4 from the line and scored 6 of her 10 points in the fourth quarter. Shelby Chambers played an amazing game, she had a double – double scoring 10 points and pulling down 15 rebounds! The Varsity team is now 5 -1 overall.
Come out and support the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams on Friday night at Home, as they take on Spring Woods at 4 pm and 5:30. Good luck ladies!

This weekend the Freshman Girl’s Basketball team competed in Alief ISD Tournament. On Thursday, they faced off with Hightower in their first game, but despite a valiant effort they came up short after a great start. Friday evening they faced at tough Alief Taylor team in their own house. Jenne Allen led the team with 12 points included a clutch layup towards the close of the game, however Taylor was able to cause a turnover and sink a last second shot to win the game. Though it was a disappointing loss, the girls are showing lots of improvement and look forward to facing Klein Forest on November 17. Go Lobos!

The Lady Lobos junior varsity competed in the Alief Taylor tournament this past weekend, where they earned first place! On Thursday the girls started off the tournament very strong knocking off Hightower 45-34. Leading scores were Camille Williams with 17 points and Calandria King with 10 points, great hustle was put in by Jordan Coleman, Tiffany Allen and Alicia Edwards. Friday the girls played Nimitz, although the game had a late start the girls were able to stay focused and once again were victorious with a score of 60-38.
Leading the team was Camille Williams with 14, and Liz Rodriguez with 11. Other lobos who also came up big were Nikolette Turner and Sarah Shim. Saturday was a long day for the girls, starting the day against Westside. The game was tight and several lead changes had the team on the edge of their seats. With the score being tied going into the fourth quarter the girls rallied together and dug deep to pull out a win in the last few minutes 45-36. Leading the team was Calandria King and Liz Rodriguez with 12 points each and Camille Williams with11 points.
The second game Saturday turned out to truly be a championship match up between district competitors Cy-Creek Cougars. Both teams came out aggressive, by pressing and playing intense defense. Back in forth rallies kept each team close heading into the fourth quarter. An early run gave Cy-Creek a five point lead with 3 minutes to go in the game; however, the lady lobos did not lose composure. Tiffany Allen hit a three to put the team up by 1 with under a minute to go. With 10 seconds left the lady lobos put Cy-Creek on the line for 2 free throws, putting them up by one. Last play of the game, Camille Williams passes it in to Calandria King who dribbles the length of the court, takes a shot in the middle of the lane….it hits the rim and bounces off…Tiffany Allen rebounds the ball shoots…and SCORES…3…2…1…game over, LOBOS WIN!!!
The lady lobos had three girls in double figures Liz Rodriguez, Tiffany Allen, and Alicia Edwards. Each girl contributed in the success this weekend as the girls remain undefeated at 5-0. The lady lobos will host Klein Forest and Spring Woods this week, good luck and keep up the good work!!!
