Greetings Lobo Soccer Supporters!

To start, SUPPORT THE LOBOS FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE BERRY CENTER AS THEY TAKE ON CY-WOODS–KICKOFF AT 7:00!

I told everyone I would send out a note when I knew more, and well, I do know a little bit more! First, tonights result was most fitting to end the 2010 home regular season, and certainly could not of been drawn up any better. The 3-0 result certainly continues to keep us in the drivers seat, and some other results assisted us in our endeavor, however, some complicated the situation and are going to certainly require some “clarification” to finalize everything. The MOST important thing is, we still control everything in terms of final placement!

Ok, here is what we know. Cy-Falls has clinched the district title, as they collected a 2-1 victory over Cy-Creek, scoring 2 goals in the last 4 minutes, and the game winner with 10 seconds left. Cy-Fair dropped their match to Cy-Springs 2-1, which is what throws the need for “clarification” into the mix.

The points for the top 5 are as follows, and these are the standings as things sit after tonight:

  • Cy-Falls – 30 points
  • Cy-Woods – 23 Points – game not played due to official no-show
  • Cy-Fair – 23 points
  • Langham Creek – 23 Points
  • Cy-Creek – 20 Points

Woods plays tomorrow at 6 due to officials not showing up, so we will not factor them in.

Here is where it gets interesting–because Cy-Fair lost, IF we do not take care of business, and Cy-Creek beats Fair on Friday, you would have a 3 way tie–the tiebreaker system is Head to Head and then aggregate scoring. We hold Head to Head over Cy-Creek, as well as Aggregate–Cy-Fair holds Head to Head, as well as aggregate over us–currently Fair holds head to head and aggregate over Creek, with Creek to play Friday. Depending on the result between Fair and Creek, would certainly determine the breaking and awarding of playoff positions. Currently, Creek needs to beat fair by more than 2 goals to take aggregate.

The next tie breaker in line is goals scored, MAX of 3 per game. Currently, LCHS has 21 goals scored that count, Cy-Fair has 21 and Creek has 18. Based on this, the best that Creek could do would be to score the MAX allowed goals of 3, in order to tie, us, pending we dont score. The next tie-breaker is goals allowed, MAX of 3. Currently, Langham has allowed 10, Creek 13, Fair 14. This could be where the “buck stops” to determine seeding if the craziness continues! The absolute worst goals allowed with the max we could end up with would be 13, and if Creek shuts out Fair, and LC totally flops against Woods, we could be tied at 13 with Creek, and Fair would have more goals allowed, which would actually eliminate Fair from the playoffs. From here, to break the tie, we would either go back to Head to Head for seeding, or would move to the next tie-breaker, which is total goals scored, no limit–currently LC has 24 and Cy-Creek 18–which places us 6 in front of them. This could get EVEN more interesting IF Woods loses to Lakes tomorrow night and if ALL 4 teams tied each other Friday–again, numbers favor the Lobos. Effectively, Cy-Creek needs to beat Fair 3-0 for us to get past the Goals for, Max of 3 tiebreaker.

WHEW, that was alot–essentially, based on tonights result, and the way the system is set up, I am going to wait for FIRM confirmation before I state anything is FINAL. HOWEVER, you all can look at this and come to your own conclusions! As I said before, the only standings that matter are those that come out on Friday, March 12 at 9:00pm, and that is what we are moving forward to.

We still have one game left, and anything can certainly happen, and we need to play as though our life depends on it!

CONGRATS to our Lobo Mens Junior Varsity Program, who pushed their record to 13-0-2 overall and 9-0-2 in District play with a 4-0 victory over Jersey Village. The Junior Varsity is playing to close out the season and collect the District 15-5A Junior Varsity title on Friday night at Cy-Woods.
