The win over Cy-Springs means that the Lobos clinched a share of the district title for the first time since 1987-88. The win was also historic, because it matched the highest win total in the history of Langham Creek Basketball, 26 wins. It was a thrilling night to be a Lobo!!

So where do we go from here? This morning in the playoff meeting, the Lobos won the first seed from district 17-5A. As a result of that, the Lobos will play the fourth place team from 18-5A. There is currently a tie between Aldine and Hastings for fourth place. Friday night Aldine and Hastings will play to see who advances as the fourth seed. Based on the results of that game, we will know our playoff opponent, game site, time, and date.

If Aldine wins Friday, the Bi-District Championship game will be:
Langham Creek vs Aldine at Atascosita – Tuesday 2/21 at 7pm

or

If Hastings wins Friday, the Bi-District Championship game will be:
Langham Creek vs. Hastings at Cy-Falls – Tuesday 2/21 at 7pm

All game tickets will be $3 for students and adults. Thanks again to everyone who came out to the game!!! Our work is not done and we will need your support to see where the journey leads us. We will need your support!!!

See you in the stands,

Your Lobo softball team opened district play last night against district rival Cy-Falls. After 5 innings of play the Lobos found themselves down one to zero; however this would change quickly as their bats got hot. Your Lobos tied the game one to one on a suicide squeeze play with Junior Kassie Rodriguez scoring Senior Kaylyn Medcalf. This play shifted the momentum to our favor and the Lobos continued to get key hits with the likes of a Grand-slam home run by junior Michaela Fischer to cap a 5 run sixth inning. With a supportive defensive performance from junior Courtney Hendley and freshman Hannah Martinez the battery of junior pitcher Jordyn Anders and sophomore catcher Melinda Dobsky would contain the Eagles for the remainder of the game, giving your Lobos a 5-2 district win and a 1-0 record. Ladies this was a strong TEAM performance and an awesome way to open up a tough district season. Keep it up we are proud of you!!!

Lobo Nation:

As I sit in front of the computer writing the next installment of the season, it is hard to believe the end of the district season has only one game left. The message to our kids has been “Our work is not done!” The Varsity has not played 33 games against one of the most exhaustive schedules I have ever put into place for a team. The sub-varsity teams have faced challenges in cutbacks of tournaments and teams throughout the region and state. But it is simply a long season when you stop to think it all started officially Oct 27, 2011.

Where did it all go? Yet there is still so much to accomplish. One final game Tuesday in district and the road can lead so many different directions. A win secures a share of the District title, assuming Cy-Falls beats Cy-Fair, for the first time since 1986-87 season. That season the Lobos also set a school record of 26 wins and went undefeated in district. With one more win Tuesday night against Cy-Springs, the team could post a tie for the most wins in the school’s history of 28 years.

The sub-varsity teams are also experiencing great seasons as the JV team has also secured part of the district title and can win it outright with a win on Tuesday. The Freshmen A Team boasts a 10-2 record and will finish in the top 2 in the district. The Sophomore team ran into a buzzsaw this week in Fair and Lakes but will finish among the top in the district. And the Freshmen B Team has fought tooth and nail in every contest that have been decided by the slimmest of margins. Not only is the Varsity have a great year, but the program as a whole is having a great year. But Tuesday night, there is still so much to accomplish. We cannot stop here! There is still too much too much at stake to stop here! There is still work to be done!

Tuesday night will also mark the final home game for the Seniors. Gilbert Carter, Cobi Allen, Quinn Taylor, Ryan Patrick, Fuzz Radjenovich, Danny Newsome, and Joy Cooper along with their parents will be honored prior to the game. When it seems like this season has flown by so fast, it is not even fathomable to me that their journey is almost over at Langham Creek. There comes a time in everyone’s life where the next challenge awaits and the path leads somewhere else on a new journey and when that time comes for seniors to move on, we know they must go. Until that time come there is still work to be done!

This week was another banner week for the Lobos. After a standing room only crowd 2/3/2012 at Cy-Falls, the Lobos were meet by a Cy-Fair team on Tuesday 2/7/2012. The Lobos were not at full strength, but again the collection of the team responded to make sure that there was no let down. The Lobos dominated from the start as the Bobcats had little answer for the length and defensive effort of the Lobos. The Lobos opened up a first half lead of 29-17. A big third quarter moved the lead to 53-36 and the Lobos cruised to victory 67-51. The JV team played a great second half to overcome a ten point deficit to beat the Bobcats. The Sophomore team did not fare so well as they dropped a tough one after going down 16 points to the Bobcats. The Lobos made a furious comeback only to fall short by one. The Freshmen A team saw their game go cack and forth all the way until the end, but clutch freethrows and key defensive stops gave the Lobos a 1 point victory. The Freshmen B team fell behind early and could not recover to overcome the big margin.

Friday Night the Lobos traveled to Cy-Lakes to take on a Spartans team that gave one away to Jersey Village on Tuesday night. The loss Tuesday night, had the Spartans focused on the Lobos as the Spartans needed only one more win to secure the final playoff spot in the district. The Lobos took the Spartans best punches, but stayed strong. The crowd once again was one that created a playoff atmosphere. The energy in the gym was electric only fueling energy of an upset minded Cy-Lakes team in their senior’s final home game. The Lobos took on a barrage of three pointers in the first half. It seemed like everyone was making shots from beyond the arc in the first half for the Spartans. However, the Lobos kept the game close and only trailed 42-37 at the half. The third quarter was no different for the Spartans as the barrage of threes continued and the shooting cooled down for the Lobos. The Spartans built an eleven point lead and Lobos began to answer. The end of the third quarter saw the bench step up and change the tempo of the game and the tide started to turn. The Lobos had the momentum of the game turned, but another big three at the end of the 3rd quarter told the Lobos that the Spartans weren’t just going to lay down and quit. The 4th quarter belonged to the Lobos as the defensive end of the game turned into transition baskets. The Lobos outscored the Spartans 15-6 to force the game into overtime. In overtime, the Lobos struck first and came up with a defensive stop. The Lobos started to gain momentum in overtime and slowly seized control of the game at the freethrow line, but the Spartans had one more barrage of long three pointers left in their arsenal. They simply would not go away. The Lobos made enough freethrows to hold on for a 71-67 win to move the Lobos to 25-8 on the season and 11-1 in district. The JV team had to come back in the second half to beat the Spartans with two clutch freethrows down the stretch. The Sophomore team was simply overpowered against the Spartans as the Lobos loss going away. The Freshmen A team got off to a slow start trailing by 2 at halftime. However, a great defensive effort and execution on the offense saw the Lobos pull away down the stretch by a margin of 14. The Freshmen B team avenged their earlier loss to Cy-Lakes and lead the entire way.

The Lobos played host to The Woodlands and Elkins High School on Saturday 2-11-12

The first game put The Woodlands vs. the LC Lobos in a great scrimmage game, with Hayden Jones getting the start on the mound, and completely shutting down the line up through 3 innings. The Lobos would bring in Aaron Fletcher for 3 more innings and he would also have a fine outing, giving up 2 unearned runs on a couple walks hit batter, a balk and a pass ball. Cameron McCartney would come in and close the 7th for a LOBOS (NO HITTER) in seven innings of work. Some good defense and pitching led the way again, as the Lobos had 5 hits in the contest, but could not push across any runs. Singles by Brandon Montalvo, Hayden Jones, Taylor Hodges, Ryan Rand, and Tyler Ellison. John Erck would also put down a nice sacrifice bunt to move runner over to second. The Woodlands 2 LC Lobos 0.

Game Two would see Elkins face off with LC Lobos, and the result would be more of the same Good pitching and defense. Ben Taylor would get the start and go 4 innings, then Gonzalo Garcia Sosa would come in and pitch the last 3 innings. The Lobos would

come out on the short end 2-1 in the Scrimmage. But over all there was some good work put in by the boys. That’s why we have scrimmages. JJ Leal had a double down the LF Line in the game, and Ryan Burns would also have an RBI single to left center that he tried to stretch into a double and was called out at 2nd, those were a few hitting highlights in the game.

Next Scrimmage Tuesday, 2-14-12, Lobo Field 6PM, We hope!
