On behalf of the Langham Creek Athletic Booster Club, I would like to express my feelings for Mark Jenkins and the Jenkins family. I watched Mark for years in his tireless efforts in supporting kids in athletics in our community and at Langham Creek High School. Mark was such a wonderful example of what it means to give of yourself. Mark gave so much of his precious time, heart and energy to so many young people and to those adults that he served as a member of the Booster club. Mark, will forever be an example of charity. I feel honored to have our booster club scholarship bear his name.

MARK JENKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Mark Jenkins had a passion for the purpose and success of the Athletic Booster Club. His love of sports cultivated his motivation to elevate and improve the potential of all organized sports at LCHS. Mark’s philosophy on volunteering was to give of yourself in three ways; to your church, your community and to your schools. He served on numerous committees at church, led scouting for many years and was dedicated to all of our schools, especially Langham Creek.

Mark was born in Houston, Texas on March 16, 1962. He was raised in Georgetown, Texas, graduated Texas A&M in 1984 and then lived the past 23 years back in Houston. Mark was married for 24 years to Felicia and has 3children; Ross, Max and Regan. They all attended and participated in athletics for the Lobo Nation.

Organized sports were a way of life for Mark. He played every sport his high school could offer then continued to play flag football, softball and golf; even coed softball and volleyball with Felicia until his son’s needed a coach for their Cy-Fair Sport Assoc. teams and YMCA teams. Coaching was year round for Mark. In the fall he would coach Ross’ football teams, in the spring he would coach Max’s baseball teams that would continue through the summer months. There were many successful seasons and many friendships with families that were formed along the way.

When his sons began high school, he joined the LCABC. After a few years he served as President for 2 years. Mark thought that every child deserved the best athletic opportunities possible to participate in their high school’s sport teams. He believed that LCABC should support ALL sports at Langham to ensure they had what was needed to succeed. When it came to out of school teams, he knew some young men’s chances of participating might have been hindered, but Mark believed every student, with passion for the game, should not be denied a chance to play their sport. He was known to provide gear for anyone who needed it, organize pre and post game meals, or even provide rides to and from practice. With the help and generosity of other LCABC parents, he organized and coached the first 7 on 7 football program at Langham and continued to coach the teams for 3 more years. It was important to Mark to see each of the players he coached be successful. If they had a desire to play at the next level, Mark assisted in their recruiting even taking them to summer camps or visits if needed. Joining other LCABC members, he helped establish the existence of PACK to ensure that all students of Langham Creek be acknowledged for their accomplishments.

Mark died suddenly on March 18, 2010 from Hypertrophic Cardio Myopothy, a congenital heart condition. Those who knew him and worked beside him will cherish the moments they spent building young lives through sports and competition. He will always be remembered for his strong spirit for life, his love of family and friends, and his dedication to Langham Creek Athletics.
